Weird corner: Complete

Wednesday, February 1, 2023

We pretty much finished up all the framing work today aside from a few nailers that remain in a few of the corners. It was a bit fiddly trying to visualize what we were aiming for with the notched 2x4s and overlaps.

The corner over the front door area is fully framed

The corner doesn’t really need to be load-bearing since most of the weight will go down into the studs that will run along the sides of the front door. There’s also the stud that comes down from where the two walls join, it starts up at the ceiling and has very good support.

This corner will provide a nice little triangular covering above the front door, although we plan to probably put some sort of additional awning out there, since the triangle isn’t all that big.

Very spacious loft area

While I was nailing in the plywood from inside the loft, I was surprised by how large the loft area feels. It will no doubt feel smaller once the loft floor is in, but I think it will still feel very spacious.

The tall side has a 4’ (1.2 m) vertical space that tapers down towards the floor at a 20° slope, leaving about 1-foot (0.3 m) on the low end.

Today’s lunch special at Desperado’s was Mexican. Dad had enchiladas, and chicken tacos for me.
